The Canisius women’s soccer team concluded their season winless this past Saturday after a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the St. Peter’s Peacocks. The team finished with an 0-15-2 record, only scoring eight goals the entire season.
Senior midfielder Stephanie Radakovic scored twice for the Peacocks and senior defender Brooke Boutchie provided an assist as the team got just their second win of the season. Freshman goalkeeper Annabelle Adams recorded her first career clean sheet for St. Peter’s.
The Peacocks had a major advantage in shot attempts over the Golden Griffins 16-8, and they also dominated in shots on target, 10-2, during the match. Despite the Griffs’ poor record, sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Jones was solid once again for the Griffs, recording eight saves in the loss.
While the season ends bitterly for the Griffs, they at least have some solid young players like Jones in the lineup to build off. Other young players to get excited about for the future for the Griffs are freshman Jordan Spencer and sophomore Tiani Fonoti.
Fonoti finished the season with 24 shots on goal in 47 shot attempts. It is the most shots on target and shots attempts since Mallory Illsley had 24 shots on target in 50 shot attempts during the 2014 season.
The pair of Jones and Spencer in net for the Griffs should also be very encouraging for Griffs fans, as the two combined to make 93 saves this season. This is the most by a tandem since 2015 when Kailee DeFranks and Savannah Jonathan combined to make 119 stops.
