The Canisius women’s lacrosse team looked to extend their win streak to five games as they hosted St. Bonaventure for the last game of their homestand.
The Griffs started the game strong as they scored the first two goals of the contest, one from sophomore Meg Hiltz and the other from senior Caroline Netti. The Bonnies then scored four unanswered goals to capture the lead. Senior Riley Davis was able to score before the first quarter ended, cutting St. Bonaventure’s lead to one. Netti was able to score the only two goals in the second quarter as the Griffs went into halftime leading 5-4.
Canisius scored the first goal of the second half as senior Maddie Mazur was able to get one past the St. Bonaventure goaltender. Both teams battled to try and get on the scoreboard, but at the end of the third quarter, the score remained 6-4 Canisius.
St. Bonaventure came out firing in the fourth quarter, scoring three straight goals to give the Bonnies a one-goal lead. The Griffs scored three unanswered goals right after as Davis scored her second of the game and freshman Maddie Fitzgerald and graduate student Paige Stachura gave the Griffs a two-goal lead again. The Bonnies were able to score one more goal before the end of the game, but the outcome did not change. Canisius extended their win streak to five games as they beat St. Bonaventure 9-8.
The Griffs will head on the road to play Robert Morris on Saturday, March 16. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start time. They’ll then return home on Friday, March 22 to host their first conference game of the season. The team will play at 4 p.m. against Quinnipiac.
