Canisius women’s basketball will hit the road one last time to face two opponents, as three MAAC teams look to secure two remaining playoff spots.
The Griffs hold steady as the 10th seed, even after three straight losses to Mount St. Mary’s, Marist and Siena. With the lone road game falling to the Mount on Feb. 15, the Griffs returned home in search of more wins to add to the 2024-25 season, but came up short. First a dramatic overtime loss gave Marist another win on Thursday, Feb. 20 before Siena took another win from the Griffs on Saturday, Feb. 22.
The first of two games this weekend was against the Manhattan Jaspers, resulting in a 71–35 loss for Canisius. This lone matchup between the Jaspers and the Griffs for the season broke the identical 6–10 record in conference play both teams had. With Thursday’s contest going the way of the Jaspers both teams remain in the same position in MAAC standings.
The Golden Griffins will then travel north to New Rochelle, N.Y. to face the Iona Gaels on Saturday, Mar. 1. Last meeting, the Griffs took down the Gaels in dramatic fashion in Buffalo, scoring several free throws in the final minutes to secure a 66–63 win. Since that matchup both Canisius and Iona have gone 4–7.
This weekend could determine the Griffs’ postseason status, and help relieve the pressure of next week’s games, where they host Rider and St. Peter’s for Senior Day.
