Despite the Battle of the Bridge resulting in a Griffs win Thursday, Jan. 30, the women’s basketball team’s win streak was cut short after a 56–41 loss at home.

The Griffs hosted the Quinnipiac Bobcats, who currently hold the number two seed in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. After half the Bobcats led 35–26, the closest score gap the Griffs have had against a MAAC opponent since their first game against Sacred Heart on Jan. 4.

“As we look to transition from game to game, we look to stay consistent and better our transition,” said head coach Tiffany Swoffard in regards to the back-and-forth season this team has faced.

Canisius sophomore Shariah Gailes led the charge with 11 rebounds, adding to the team-leading 141 rebounds she already has this season. With the Bobcats dominating the second half, the Griffs ultimately could not close the gap. Despite the loss, the Griffs recorded 38 defensive rebounds to Quinnipiac’s 34, and had a 23.5% better three-point shot percentage than the Bobcats.

“The beautiful thing is we have another opportunity after this to get a win and better our preparation, and we’re going to challenge them to find a way to improve our game,” continued coach Swoffard.

The women’s basketball team continues their streak of home games with Merrimack on Saturday, Feb. 8 and Niagara on Tuesday, Feb. 11 before they close out the week with Mount St. Mary’s on Saturday, Feb. 15.
