Women’s and Men’s Swim and Dive loses despite excellent individual performances

This past Tuesday, the women’s and men’s swim and dive teams both competed against St. Bonaventure University. Both teams fell to the Bonnies, with the men losing 168–50 and the women losing 141–76, but individually the team had some of the top performances of the meet. 

On the women’s side, the top 10 leaderboard was filled with Canisius swimmers, and freshman Daphne Mead blew everyone out of the water once again. Mead had the top swim of the meet in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:08.49. Sophomore Evie Leighton followed Mead with a performance of 1:55.34 in the 200 yard freestyle. The duo were also the top two swimmers of the meet, with Mead coming in first and Leighton in second. Sophomore Andi Mackey came in at third in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 25.09, a personal best for her. 

Seniors Brenna McLaughlin and Ashley Allaire, as well as sophomore Cassandra Ercoli also pulled out top 10 swims. McLaughlin placed 4th and 5th, Allaire placed 9th and Ercoli placed 10th. 

For the men’s team, they also recorded an excellent final performance for the semester. Junior Toby Mayfield, a standout so far this season, had the top performance of the meet in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 1:56.06. Following him was junior Sam Vidal in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:46.37. Vidal was also the top swimmer of the meet. Senior Bronson Benes came in third with a time of 1:57.08 in the 200 yard butterfly.

Sophomore Elliot Somers, senior Nick Kishbaugh, junior Halsted Barton, freshman Giovonni Poggio, senior Ben Yant and freshman Elijah Nevins produced top 10 performances as well. 

Their next meet is Jan. 11 against Le Moyne at 1 p.m. in the Burt Flickinger Center in downtown Buffalo.
