The Canisius Volleyball team came out on top in their Battle of the Bridge matchup against Niagara on Wednesday. The Griffs had a three-set streak to defeat Niagara 3-1, simultaneously breaking the tie between the two rivals, who had been battling to hold onto fourth place in MAAC standings.
For Head Coach Tom Hanna, the win was gladly accepted, yet there’s more to it than just a win against the Purple Eagles. “There’s the possibility that we’ve got that fourth spot, but there’s six matches to go – a third of the season. There’s still plenty of work to do,” Hanna said.
The match saw plenty of action from many of the Griffs, including sophomore Lauren Hubert, who registered 15 kills and a season high 20 digs to help lead the team to victory in the four sets. The team now improves to 8-4 in MAAC play and 12-11 overall.
Next up for the Golden Griffins are their last two home matchups of the season, hosting Manhattan on Nov. 2, and Iona on Nov. 3. The contest between the Gaels and Griffs will serve as the team’s Senior Day, as well as the Athletes for Athletes game. Both games are scheduled to start at 12 p.m. in the Koessler Athletic Center.
