Canisius women’s lacrosse opened up their MAAC play schedule with a 11–10 loss against Mount St. Mary’s this past Saturday. Junior Maggie Tifft was one of the six scoring players, and recorded a hat trick alongside freshman standout Katie Adams, which jokingly earned her the nickname ‘Tic-Tac-Tifft’ over the game’s broadcast.

The Liverpool, NY native was credited with the first two goals for the Griffs within a three-minute timespan, bringing the score to 2–1. Her third goal of the contest was a behind-the-back shot off an assist from sophomore Megan Previdi, bringing her season count to 15 total goals, good for second on the team.

Much like the rest of the upperclassmen on the team, Tifft has stepped up to the role with ease. Both her freshman and sophomore seasons saw seven total goals, a total she has doubled in just nine games this season. The uptick in goals has come with more playing time for Tifft, who has started all nine games so far this season after not recording a start in her first two seasons.

“She is working to put together complete games this season as her role has expanded in her junior year. We've asked more of her as a junior as she is taking the draw and getting more offensive opportunities,” explained Head Coach Russell Allen. “Against Kennesaw,” he added, “she had 5 draws and was at 50% shooting, so we've seen her potential this year. We're hoping to see her continue to increase her shooting percentage while drawing at a more consistent level. She's been working hard at fine-tuning her finishing to be able to be more efficient on the offensive end.”

The Griffs head on the road to play Battle of the Bridge rival Niagara on Saturday and will return home on Wednesday for a matchup against new MAAC addition Sacred Heart for their Staff Appreciation Day and Athletes for Athletes game.
