The Canisius Golden Griffins competed in the two-day 2023 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory in the Big Apple on Saturday and Sunday.
On the men's side, senior Andrew Perreault advanced to the finals after claiming second place in the mile preliminaries with a time of 4:13.05. In the finals, he clinched the silver medal with a time of 4:15.05, which was less than two seconds away from the first-place runner.
Graduate student Richard Moore set a new personal record in the 800-meter race preliminaries, crossing the line with a time of 1:54, which forwarded him into the finals. Moore posted a time of 1:58.01 in the finals, earning him seventh place. His prelim time was just under a second from claiming first place for the Griffs All-Time record, which is currently held by Muris Kobaslija with a time of 1:53.46.
The senior duo of Tom Appenheimer and Michael Peppy both earned top-10 finishes in the 5,000-meter race, with Appenheimer grabbing fifth place with a time of 14:37.78 followed by Peppy with a time of 14:39.35.
On the women's side, Senior Olivia Moran had a hard-fought race. Moran started in the back of the pack of the 3,000-meter race but started pushing at the halfway mark. She was able to claim fourth place with a time of 9:55.48.
Junior Maura Jordan participated in the 400-meter dash, placing third in her heat and eleventh overall with a time of 1:00.52.
Olivia Moran, Marissia Silba, Jules Jones and Maura Jordan all doubled back for the distance medley relay on Saturday. The quartet was able to cross the line with a time of 12:26.81, putting them in fourth and earning 5 points for the women's team.
Eight runners qualified for the ECAC/IC4A Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will take place on March 4 at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center in Boston, Mass.
