The Canisius men’s and women’s track teams finished their indoor season placing 10th at the 2025 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, which took place at the Armory in New York City this past weekend.
A total of five school records fell this past weekend, including two freshmen records set by Ryan Giglia in the mile (4:19.57) and Nadalie Latchcaw in the 5km race (18:16.26). Graduate students Stephanie Seyfang and Jules Jones also broke records this past weekend, with Seyfang breaking her own record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.19, and Jones lowering the 800m record to 2:19.34.
The relays also shined this weekend, as the Griffs’ best finish came in the women’s distance medley relay. Junior Jacqueline Appenheimer and senior Kayla Schmidt joined Seyfang and Jones to take hold of second place with a time of 12:17.42. The 4x800 women’s relay also chimed in on the record-breaking performances, where Jones, Appenheimer, Taylor Heschke and Clara Sundberg broke the school record with a time of 9:35.07.
On the men’s side, Kyle Urban paced the Griffs with a sixth-place finish in the 3000m event, crossing the line in 8:28.33. Both Giglia and Brody Jones also garnered top-ten finishes in their events. Giglia placed 10th (4:23.88) in the mile while Jones finished in seventh in the 800m event (1:59.04).
Appenheimer and Schmidt also had top individual finishes in the mile (5:05.69 / 8th) and the 3000m (10:00.66 / 11th) races, respectively.
The Griffs will be back on the track for the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina University, when they begin their outdoor track and field season on Mar. 27.
Rider University took home both the men’s and women’s titles for the third consecutive year. On the women’s side, the Broncs scored 142 points, with Quinnipiac finishing close behind them with 135 points, followed by Sacred Heart to round up the top three. On the men’s side, Rider led with 148.25 points, followed by Iona (111) and Mount St. Mary’s (99.25).
The MAAC also announced its All-Academic teams last Thursday, where 26 Griffs garnered the honor, placing 14 on the women’s side and 12 on the men’s side.
