The Canisius men’s soccer team’s recent success could be enough to push them into a playoff spot. With the MAAC Championship around the corner, the Griffs picked up a draw on Wednesday at Siena and a win on Saturday against Mount St. Mary’s.
Saturday served as Senior Day at the Demske Sports Complex, but it was the underclassmen finding the back of the net that put Canisius on top. Trailing 1–0 in the second half, junior defender Josh Miller scored his second goal of the season off of a feed from Michael Switala. About 10 minutes later, sophomore Mason Petrucci saw his corner kick bend into the net, giving the Griffs a one goal lead.
Head Coach Michael Tanke shared his thoughts on the results of the past two games, saying, “I thought we looked fantastic these past few games, going on the road against Siena is always a tough place to play against a really good team. I thought getting a draw there was a positive outcome. Wins have been hard to come by this season for us, so getting a win [against the Mountaineers] felt good for us. We had success in team defending and we need to build on it going forward,” said Coach Tanke.
The Griffs head back on the road for a critical conference match, traveling to Fairfield, Connecticut this upcoming Saturday to take on the Stags at Lessing Field, with kickoff slated at 2 p.m.
