Guide to celebrating your birthday on non-leap years

By: Hannah Wiley, Assistant Features Editor

Since this year is not a leap year, people born on Feb. 29 sadly will not have a birthday. However, it presents me with the perfect opportunity to give you some ideas of how to celebrate your nonexistent birthday, starting with some things to do if you celebrate the day before.

  1. Keeping it close to home, Canisius Men’s Basketball plays Manhattan tonight in the KAC at 7 p.m. It’s always a great day to support the Griffs!

  2. For some self-care moments, Nature Studio and Healing Arts in East Aurora is having yoga events throughout the day! Plus they are hosting a Yoga and Essential Oils event from 6:30-7:45 p.m.

  3. The Buffalo AKG Art Museum is having a Tipsy Crafts event where you can paint glassware from 6-7:30 p.m., so if it so happens that you are turning 21 or above this birthday you should definitely check it out!

  4. At the same time – 6 p.m. – the AKG is hosting a performance by Will Holton, a Buffalo native saxophonist!

For those of you who choose to celebrate your birthday in March when it's not a leap year these activities are for you! But also consider celebrating in February next year because, you know, your birthday is in February…

  1. Keeping on the theme of the AKG they have their Yoga is Art yoga class from 10:15-11:30 a.m.!

  2. Canisius Hockey also plays their first playoff game at the Harborcenter at 5 p.m.! But, if Canisius sports isn’t your style, the Sabres play the Canadiens in KeyBank Center at 7 p.m.!

  3. For those of you turning 21+ Hofbrauhaus is having a country night, and who doesn’t want to spend their birthday around “boots, bulls and live music”?!

There’s always something to do in Buffalo and if you happen to be one of those people with a Feb. 29 birthday, hopefully these events make up for the fact that you only have an actual birthday every four years!
