An even-par (72) performance by senior Ryan Edholm and one-over par (73) finish by sophomore Mikey Takacs on the final round led the Griffs to a 10th place finish at the Carpetbagger Classic hosted by Binghamton University in Urbana, Maryland.

After round one of the tournament, Edholm, Takacs and sophomore Jake Dantonio were tied for 15th after shooting a three-over par (75). Edholm led the Golden Griffins’ six man squad with 3 total birdies and a score of –1 in the front nine, while Takacs had a team-high 13 pars. After 18 holes of action, Canisius was tied with Rider and Gettysburg for 11th with a score of 309, and sat two strokes back of 10th place Le Moyne.

The Griffs’ best golf came in the second round where the team combined for a score of 299, which was 10 strokes better than their first showing. Edholm’s 72 on the second round and combined score of 147 was good for a shared seventh place finish with five other golfers. The senior’s seventh place finish marked his second top 10 finish of the season after making the podium at the Little Three Championship earlier this fall.

After closing the back nine one-under par, Takacs completed his tournament with a score of 73, which placed him in a five-way tie for 12th. Freshman Chase Burgess closed out his week with back-to-back birdies, including a birdie-four on the par-5 18th hole.

Mount St. Mary’s came away with the win, combining for a team score of +8. Completing the podium in a tie for second were Wagner and Gettysburg, who sat 9 strokes back of the leader with a score of +17. The Mount also completed a 1-2 finish in the individual competition with Aaron Sorkin (-2) and Devin Smith (-1) being the only two golfers to finish the tournament under par. Wagner’s Alavid Melo Iturralde rounded up the top-three with an even-par finish.

The Griffs will tee-off once again when they take on the Albarta Coca-Cola Invitational April 6–7 at the Northampton Country Club in Easton, Pennsylvania.
