For Women’s History Month, I chose Coco Chanel as my source of inspiration. Coco Chanel, born Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel, was a fashion star of the 20th century, and continues to inspire women through her audacity, independence and her revolutionary vision about fashion.
Her spirit of entrepreneurship is a model of perseverance and success. At a time where women were usually limited to traditional gender roles, Chanel created an empire from nothing and proved that it was possible to break the social barrier and to succeed in a field dominated by men. On top of that she had a revolutionary approach to fashion. She became synonymous with her simple and sophisticated styles that redefined the feminine style.
She replaced the restrictive girdle by introducing more comfortable clothes in mainstream fashion. She liberated women and offered them a new way to dress, making it more practical and modern. Her creations, such as the famous tweed suit and the little black dress, are eternal symbols of sophistication and chic choices. Finally, Coco Chanel personifies a form of individual liberty.
She dared not to conform to the restraints society puts on women and inspires countless women students to pursue their dreams, all the while remaining steadfast in their values and never renouncing their vision or femininity. Her legacy remains a beacon of creativity, independence and determination for all.
