Women’s basketball concluded their regular season play this past weekend with a road loss against Niagara, 84-50, falling to 11-9 in MAAC play.
The loss locks Canisius into the fifth seed in the MAAC and sets up an Atlantic City matchup on Thursday against fourth-seeded Manhattan.
The Griffs fell behind early against the Purple Eagles and never managed to regain momentum in the game after falling behind 22-7 early. Canisius was led in scoring by Sisi Eleko with 18 points. Conversely, for Niagara, the Parker twins led scoring for the Purple Eagles, with Aaliyah Parker scoring 13 points and Angel Parker adding 12.
Looking ahead, the Griffs will take on Manhattan in the Quarterfinals of the MAAC Championship this Thursday in Atlantic City, NJ.
Canisius lost narrowly both times they faced Manhattan this season, with defeats of 58-55 at home and 54-51 on the road. A victory against Manhattan would mark the first time women's basketball has reached the semifinals in the MAAC since the 2005-06 season under Terry Zeh, when they lost 76-66 against Loyola.
The quarter-finals tip off this Thursday at 3:30 PM on ESPN+ and the Golden Griffin Broadcast Network as the Griffs look to keep their season alive.
