The Canisius men's and women's swimming and diving teams earned a split victory Saturday afternoon in downtown Buffalo. The women's team defeated Geneseo 174-126, while the men fell to the Knights 180-120.
For the women’s dive team, senior Adriana Bolender earned a first-place finish in the 1-meter and the 3-meter dives, respectively. Sophomore Hope Marshall secured second in the 3-meter for the Golden Griffins.
For the women’s swim side, graduate student Sage Pollack and junior Grace Van Buren, earned three and two first-place finishes, respectively. Pollack garnered the top spot in the 50 and 100-free solo events and also came in first in the 400 free relay. Van Buren placed first in the 100-fly, while also finishing first in the 400 free relay along with freshman Ashley Allaire and sophomore Jordan O'Connor. The women's team also scored first-place finishes from freshmen Noriah Cook and Bailey Wiegand as well as senior Alison Testone.
The men’s team was led by senior Liam O’Connell, picking up first-place victories in all four of his events for the second consecutive week. The reigning MAAC Men's Swimmer of the Week earned the top spot in the 200, 500 and 1000-free solo events. O'Connell also claimed first in the 400 free relay along with freshman Bronson Benes, junior Alexander Hiltbrand and senior Kyle Kimerer. Freshman Archie Minto, sophomore Daniel Bowen and Kimerer all earned first-place finishes as well for the men's team.
Canisius will return to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 6, with a dual meet at Binghamton. The meet is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start time at the Patricia A. Saunders Aquatic Center in Vestal, N.Y.
