The Buffalo News reported that this spring, enrollment at Canisius is the highest that it has been since 2012 for first-year students.
In total, “New first-year students this spring are up 75% over 2024 and 133% over 2023, and it is the largest enrolling class since 2012,” according to The Buffalo News.
This follows changes to tuition such as the Buffalo Promise Scholarship, and the Answer the Call initiative that was rolled out in 2022.
The number of students readmitted at Canisius has also increased by nearly 60%.
The Buffalo News reported that part of this increase can be attributed to “a new recruitment strategy recognizing the needs and expectations of today's prospective college students has helped.”
The newspaper also reported that both Niagara University and Canisius received a grant from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation. Canisius’ grant was $90,000 and will be used towards the Physician Assistant Studies program.
Furthermore, it will be used towards supporting “the program’s goal to boost diversity in the health workforce across Western New York by providing scholarships to students from diverse backgrounds who pursue PA graduate degrees.”
The initiatives and increase in class size are part of the university's focus on continuing to expand its outreach.
