Canisius hockey moved to 9–6–2 in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) play after going 2–1 against American International and Robert Morris this week, moving them into sixth place, just behind Army.

Sophomore Matteo Giampa, coming off being nominated for the Hobey Baker Award last week, continued his strong season, recording one goal and three assists over the three-game stretch, upping his season totals to seven goals and 18 assists.

Canisius took game one of their season series against American International, jumping out to an early 3–1 lead after the first period and holding on to that lead for the rest of the night, trading a goal each in the third period for a final score of 4–2. In game two, American International flipped the script on Canisius, riding a dominant second period where they outshot Canisius 12–8 en route to a 3–2 victory.

In the twice-rescheduled matchup against Robert Morris, Canisius got back to their winning ways, jumping out to a 3–1 lead after two periods before Trey Funk killed off the game, scoring a goal on the power play to make it 4–1, a scoreline that would hold late into the game before Robert Morris scored a late consolation goal with their goalie pulled to make it 4–2.

The Canisius power play has been a strength of the team. On the season, Canisius has gone 18/74 with the man advantage, good for a .243 conversion percentage – the best power-play unit in Atlantic Hockey, comfortably ahead of Robert Morris in second. Individually, Trey Funk and Grant Porter have both recorded four goals on the power play this season, placing them both in the top five of the Atlantic Hockey leaderboards.

Next up on Canisius’s schedule, they’ll be continuing their long road trip as they travel to Worcester, Massachusetts for a two-game series against Holy Cross. Holy Cross, which eliminated Canisius from last year's Atlantic Hockey Championship, sits in fourth place in the AHA standings so far this season with a 12–4–2 record, just narrowly behind Bentley and Niagara in the points column.
