With the new school year, campus is coming back to life! Student activities are in full swing, from barbecues to bonfires and, of course, sports. With spectators back in the stands, C-Block is back and better than ever.
After a year of not being able to attend sporting events, the club and its members are itching to get back to the games and cheer on their favorite teams and athletes. C-Block and its E-Board are planning to bring new energy to the games by encouraging more students to attend and giving away merchandise and prizes.
The C-Block eboard, led by President Sydney Carlo and Vice President Justin Brown, spent all summer revamping the constitution in excitement for this fall’s season. C-Block is bringing back everything that you know and love like giveaways at games and free tickets for major Canisius sporting events, but they have also added new, exciting things such as their incentive program.
According to Carlo, “The incentive program is divided into two parts: short term and long term. For every game, home or away, that any student goes to and checks into, they earn a raffle entry.”
The split into long-term and short-term programs aims to accommodate college students’ busy schedules. The short-term program is a fun way to win Canisius merch and sports memorabilia, with winners every two weeks. The long term raffle is for tickets to the MAAC Basketball tournament in March!
C-Block’s first event was a white-out women’s volleyball game on 09/10 which was the highest attendance of a volleyball game that was not A4A in five years, according to Canisius athletics. Canisius students are encouraged to attend any game and show their Griff pride. C-Block’s big games for the rest of the year are as follows:
Men's Soccer vs. Marist 9/29 at 4 p.m.
Women's Soccer vs. Niagara 10/20 at 7 p.m.
Men's Hockey vs. Ferris State 10/29 at 7 p.m.
Women's Volleyball vs. Niagara 11/4 at 6 p.m.
Women's Basketball vs. Colgate 11/20 at 1 p.m.
Men's Basketball vs. Fairfield 12/3 at 7 p.m.
Men's Hockey vs. Niagara 12/9 at 7 p.m.
Rumor says there will be giveaways at each of these games as well — who doesn't like free swag?!
One of the big C-Block events of the semester is a bus trip to cheer on the Ice Griffs at Penn State University on Oct. 9. The trip is 100% free and includes travel there and back, food, tickets and a limited edition hoodie. There are only 50 spots though: if you want to secure a spot, make sure you’re at the women's soccer game at Demske field this Saturday at 1 p.m.
If you want to be more involved in C-Block they are looking for a secretary to fill their E-Board.
Questions can be emailed to cblock@canisius.edu, or you can always stop in their clubroom if the door is open!
